Priority Issue: Affordable Healthcare

As a candidate I believe that access to quality, affordable healthcare is critical to the well-being of Massachusetts citizens. In order to accomplish this important goal, we must strengthen the prescription drug benefit for senior citizens and place HMO’s under increased supervision by the state authorities to protect and serve the Commonwealth's health care needs.

Health insurance costs are astronomical and increase on a yearly basis. Meanwhile, people are finding that their HMO will no longer cover certain drugs and tests that are needed. Our health plan systems should no longer use financial inducements as a means of having physicians delay or restrict the appropriate course of treatment for their patients.

I advocate for a patient’s bill of rights and insist that health plans must defer to physicians on the determination of medical necessity of health care services, consistent with established medical principles.
