Affordable Housing
Everyone is entitled to have safe and affordable living quarters. I believe that publicly subsidized housing for eligible low income and senior citizens is a basic right and should be available in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
There is currently a lack of adequate public housing across the Commonwealth and some people are forced to wait months and even years before they can be accepted into such facilities. I advocate a heightened priority for affordability initiatives and I endorse programs in which tenants would assume managerial or ownership responsibilities.
Investing in Commuter Rail Systems
As a young professional living in Worcester I know first hand the importance of investing in our commuter rail system. I, like many, will soon be a homeowner, and have taken advantage of Worcester's condo boom and vast resources. I am a firm believer that commuter rail service is Worcester's future and is needed. Unfortunately, Worcester has not invested in commuter and freight rail services. This has become a hindrance to the city and has made it difficult for the residents that rely on these services to commute back and forth to work and home. By investing in these services and expanding rail service to Worcester the city will become competitive and accessible, urging economic growth. I will be a state representative that will make rail services a top priority for our city.
Domestic Violence Prevention
Domestic violence is an atrocity that must be eradicated as it violates one’s basic human rights and personal dignity. As a candidate, I pledge to work to introduce legislation that would that would help reduce acts of violence against all citizens in the Commonwealth, especially those against women and children.
The key message I will stress is that domestic violence is a crime and must be treated as such. I will support adequate funding for grants that combat domestic violence and strengthen the Massachusetts state laws that punish rapists, outlaw stalking, make it easier to get restraining orders, and provide the funds for hotlines and shelters. Throughout the Commonwealth, victims are not getting the support they need. With your help, I will build a strong coalition of awareness against domestic violence and will give this issue the attention it deserves by advocating for grants to faith-based organizations to help couples strengthen their marriage, become better parents, and deal with issues that will reduce domestic violence.
