Priority Issue: Quality Public Schools

As a candidate I am determined to make public education a top priority. Our children deserve a high-quality, adequately funded public education. Massachusetts has an obligation to provide the best resources possible to our public schools to help our children succeed. I am committed in the efforts to have fully qualified teacher in every classroom.

However, I disagree with legislators on Beacon Hill that feel we should hold our teachers accountable for unrealistic goals while we are slashing funding for educational programs. I oppose the use of the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) test results as exclusive and decisive criteria for graduation from high school.

I am determined to build on the initiative of reducing class size and making sure our children have safe schools in which to learn. I will advocate for the state of Massachusetts to make a commitment to education by strengthening our schools, creating strong after-school and summer programs, and fully funding special education in the Commonwealth.

I will take steps to ensure that all Massachusetts children receive a world-class education.
